Story behind the song
There's something about this island that keeps drawing us back. Oh I know it's a package holiday destination with all the tackiness that goes with it, but away from the bustling strip there's the blue ocean and surely one of the best beaches in the world. I've not found anywhere else where you can sit in glorious sun next to thundering surf and gaze out on endless sand dunes stretching to the horizon and beyond. Ahhh. Not sure what time signature this is in, it sort of keeps changing in an unruly way - I just let it go where it wanted.
Lyrics
Hey Mr O'Leary, let me on your plane I only have one piece of hand luggage But I have to get back there again I know I only just got back And it must have slipped my mind See I had something important And I left it behind I have to get back to Fuerteventura Where the hot sun shines And the strong breezes blow I left something behind Something I'm not sure of I just have to get it back, I know Every day we'd take a taxi Down to the Dunas beach For lunch we'd just take some sliced cheese And a bread roll each We loved the loud Atlantic waves And the soft Saharan sand Sangria in the sunset Until we'd do it all again Do it all again Nights in Corralejo When the sun has burned down In the Ace of Spades When the surfers come to town So take my ticket, check me in Let's board and make a start Back to Fuerteventura Where I left my heart I have to get back to Fuerteventura Where the hot sun shines And the strong breezes blow I left something behind Something I'm not sure of I just have to get it back, I know
